Kate Quinn’s Newest Novel Doesn’t Disappoint
Set in a Washington D.C. boarding house during the early years of the Cold War, Kate Quinn’s newest novel, The Briar Club, creatively tells an engaging story of loyalty, secrets, and friendship.
Quinn’s tale takes place over the course of a five-year period and shifts perspectives between the Briarwood House’s eclectic mix of female residents. The house itself serves as a narrator in between each perspective shift. Several chapters include actual recipes for meals made by characters.
This creative storytelling model, combined with Quinn’s typical flair for twists and turns, makes this novel impossible to put down.

The Briar Club lacks the physical peril and gore of The Huntress and The Alice Network, but made up for it with an element of humor not typical of Quinn’s other works. After the dry disappointment that was Quinn’s last book, The Diamond Eye, Quinn brings back her masterful characterization in The Briar Club.
Readers who enjoy history, intrigue, and female leads should give any of Kate Quinn’s books a try.
