This upcoming Monday, ECHS students are scheduled to have their first off day for Labor Day weekend, but what is Labor Day?

Labor Day celebrates the hard work of our American workers, unions and labor leaders. The holiday was first proposed by Peter McGuire to the New York Central Labor Union on May 12, 1882, where McGuire suggested that one day out of the year Americans honor labor. Later in the year the first official day was celebrated on September 4, 1881, In New York City.
Americans typically celebrate Labor Day by taking an extra day to relax and have gun with family and friends. We asked a few Indians this week how they planned to spend their three-day weekend. Visiting family near and far, engaging in various water sports, getting caught up on sleep and homework, and watching football topped this year’s list. ECHS Sophomore Falyn Stokes Leak states she will be going to the pool with her mom and friend. “I’m going to the pool for Labor Day and I’m excited for it.” Junior Virgle Garret told us, “My plans for this labor day weekend include woodworking with my grandfather and volunteering at Porch Fest in Senoia. Porch Fest is a music event where local artists play on front porches of historic homes in Downtown Senoia.”
