For those who haven’t had the pleasure of seeing it, WALL-E is an animated science fiction movie that takes place on an abandoned earth with a tiny robot named WALL-E.

All alone in the wasteland of earth, WALL-E picks up trash to recycle. One day, though, everything changes. He meets another robot named Eve. Eve’s mission is to find plant life to grow so that humans can go back to earth. When she manages to find a single plant, Eve gets shot into space, and WALL-E manages to follow his new-found friend. They soon make it to a spaceship in outer space that it is run by an AI named Otto and the ship’s captain. The problem is that the whole of humanity is very big and can no longer really do anything except sit and let the AI take care of them.

As WALL-E wanders through the ship to find Eve, he runs into Otto and the captain. But there was another issue: the plant is missing, and they have to go retrieve it. During this time some people, including the ship’s captain, start to wean themselves off of the ship’s technology and services, so Wall-e and Eve get the plant and bring it back to the captain as he is learning about the earth. Otto is not happy about these developments that will lead to him being obsolete, so he tries to take control of the ship and keep everyone onboard. Working together, the captain and WALL-E, work together, save the day and humanity, and start a new life on a growing earth.

WALL-E is a beautiful film to watch and particularly poignant given the the state of our environment and dependence on AI. Even during the first 30 minutes, the movie told a story without really saying a word, and it stays that way through much of the movie. Some people can say this movie was underrated compared to other Pixar’s movies, They are right because not enough people talk about this movie.

My only complaint is that Pixar hasn’t yet produced a sequel.
