East Coweta High School started using “Securly Pass” in the beginning of the school year as a new student safety protocol.

Students use the “Securly Pass” system for anything involving leaving the classroom. When using the “Securly Pass,” students have to request a pass stating which class they’re coming from and where they’re going.

This pass system is used to keep students safe and keep teachers and administrators apprised of their students’ whereabouts.  The student pass system is an excellent tool for keeping up with students, but it can also be a huge annoyance for both students and teachers. For example, if a student asks for the pass to use the restroom, it then notifies the teacher causing the teacher to take a pause from their lesson to accept the student pass to go where they’re trying to go. Once students have gotten back to class from wherever they are coming from, the teacher must then end their pass taking more time out of the lesson. The pass system takes time out of the teacher’s lesson, but it can also cause trouble for students if the teacher doesn’t end their pass within a certain time thus “flagging” that student’s pass to an administrator.

Though the “Securly Pass” system can be an inconvenience, the safety of students and the campus as a whole is worth it.  What are your experiences using the new system?
