Mrs. Mcleod’s 2nd block Food Science is trying their hand at making alfredo this week! Smoke Signals decided to stop by and ask them a couple questions to hear how they feel about this class.

Here’s what they had to say:

What do you like about this class?

Most people said that their favorite part of their favorite part of the class is cooking, but there were a few that had some more in-depth answers.

“My favorite part is that the energy here is relaxing and we all get along very well. You get to express yourself without others judging. The teacher and class are very nice.” – Seth Daniel.

“My favorite part is the eating and not having to do paper work for it” – Breanna Blackburn.

Do you prefer this over classroom time?

Everyone in the class said that they absolutely preferred cooking over in-class time and that this was way more fun and engaging.

Do you have any favorite dishes from this class?

3/5 groups said that their favorite recipe from this class was the imitation IHOP pancakes. One group said their favorite was the taco pasta and the last group was looking forward to the pasta they were making.

The Alfredo Recipe:

** get the water boiling for the pasta before you begin your sauce!! Add 1 tsp of salt to your water**

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter (1 stick)

1(8 ounce) package cream cheese

2 teaspoons garlic powder

1 & 1/2 cups milk

(½ cup) grated parmesan cheese

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper (optional)

Pint of red pepper flake if you want some spice

Directions

  1. Melt butter in a medium, non-stick saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add cream cheese and garlic powder, stirring with a wire whisk until smooth.
  3. Add milk, a little at a time. Whisking to smooth out lumps.
  4. Stir in parmesan and pepper.
  5. Remove from heat when sauce reaches desired consistency. Sauce will thicken rapidly.
  6. Topp with hot pasta to serve. (this also helps it to stick to the noodles and thicken) allow to sit for 3 minutes… then toss again and serve.
