Homecoming week: a week full of festivities leading up to the football game and the dance. Even though this year’s HOCO festivities had to be flexible, Indians found plenty of ways to have fun and participate!

Leading up to the functions on Friday and Saturday, there is a theme to dress up for every day of the week. The theme Monday was “Spirit Day,” and students were instructed to wear purple and gold, representing East Coweta’s school colors. Tuesday was “I got aux,” and students dressed up as their favorite music genre or artist. On Wednesday, the theme was “Stages of Life.” Freshmen dressed up as little kids, most students wore onesies and styled their hair in pigtails. Sophomores were college students, so they dressed as if they were in frats or sororities. Juniors were adults. Most dressed up as barbecue dads or soccer moms. Barbecue dads had beer bellies and utensils used for grilling. Soccer moms wore lululemon and athletic clothes. Seniors dressed up as senior citizens. They wore gowns, bonnets, slippers, long socks, and brought walking canes. Unfortunately, students missed Thursday’s “Theme Day” and Friday’s “USA Day” due to Hurricane Helene.

The homecoming game is traditionally the day before the dance, but it has been rescheduled to Saturday due to the weather. This game is one of the most popular alongside the rivalry game against Newnan High.

On Saturday, it’s the homecoming dance. It is one of the most looked forward to functions. Most girls plan weeks in advance for homecoming by buying their dresses, heels, and accessories months before. It can be stressful if you don’t know who you want to attend with or where to take pictures, and if you wait until the last minute to purchase your dress. Some girls want nothing more than to be asked to homecoming with a thoughtful poster. Boys typically don’t stress as much, unless they are planning on asking someone to go with them as their date. From what I’ve heard, most upperclassmen say homecoming isn’t worth it and it’s too crowded. As a freshman, I think it’s important to attend at least one homecoming dance. Make your own memories and opinion of the dance instead of missing out because other people didn’t enjoy it.

Our homecoming week didn’t go as planned because of the tropical storm in the area, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy the rest of your week and make memories you’ll never forget!
