Mr. Joo is a math teacher who came back to East Coweta this year from Northgate High School. Several years ago, he taught math at East Coweta and then moved to a different high school. To gladly welcome him back to EC, Smoke Signals conducted a brief interview with Mr. Joo, who gave warm and kind responses to every question. Below are the stories from Mr. Joo that he would like to share with our school.

Q: Good afternoon Mr. Joo! Can you briefly introduce yourself please?
Hi. My name is Matthew Joo, a 1.5 generation Korean immigrant. I live with my lovely spouse Elizabeth, who is an engineer at Coca Cola Co. My awesome daughter, Elaine, graduated Brown University last year and works at Wall Street for JP Morgan as an financial analyst.

Q: What subject do you teach at East Coweta High School?
I teach Math from Algebra 1 to College Algebra.

Q: How long have you been teaching?
This is my 27th year of teaching.

Q: If you would like to, please share your previous experience at East Coweta.
East Coweta was like a family who loved and cared for each other, and it still is.

Q: What do you think about East Coweta? Do you like it?
I see more diversity and opportunities than before. Of course I love to teach here.

Q: Is there any personal or academic goal you would like to achieve at East Coweta or do you have any interesting facts about you that you would like to share with us?
My mission is to help and assist East Coweta High School students to be successful in every way possible. As for any interesting facts, I danced “Gangnam Style” with other teachers 11 years ago at the gym. This is the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMo73F9yZ1A

With the video of him dancing at the gym, the interview ended. Through the interview, I was able to have a glimpse into Matthew Joo not only as a teacher but also as an individual person. Although I was not able to take any classes from him, his interview made me think that it would have been great to learn with him. I am excited to see what new and positive impact Mr. Joo will bring to both our students and staff members.
