On Wednesday, September 25th the ECHS Ambassadors held a blood drive in the old gym where students and faculty donated blood for the American Red Cross.

“That is the fourth or fifth time I have donated blood. I enjoy it. I am not afraid of needles or blood so it doesn’t bother me at all. It took 5 minutes and 10 seconds to donate so it was really quick for me. I feel like it is something I can do to help other people out,” said Teacher Troy Cornwell.

With the help of the EC Ambassadors, the American Red Cross Blood Drive went well. 57 people signed up for appointments and 40 had good donations. Each donation has the potential to save three lives, so our EC family may have saved about 120 last week!

Senior Victoria Vander-Leest donated blood at the drive and told us, “I love donating blood because it gives back to the community.” The fact that the drive coincided with Homecoming made the event that more festive and fun.

There are many reasons why schools should host blood drives: patients are able to receive the lifesaving blood they urgently need, having a blood drive helps improve team spirit by working together to help others, and it also shows leadership in bringing volunteers and donors together for a good cause. The American Red Cross provides all the things needed for a blood drive like planning assistance, recruitment tools, equipment and supplies, and trained staff. The host of the blood drive provides the location, volunteers, and the donors.

The Ambassadors will host another blood drive in March, and they all look forward to saving even more lives.
