Hurricane Helene tried to stop our Homecoming festivities, however ECHS still hosted their homecoming game Saturday, September 28th.

This past week, Hurricane Helene came through Georgia Thursday night. All Coweta schools cancel school Thursday and Friday, even though East Coweta High School and many other schools had Homecoming festivities scheduled. Students were thrilled that school was out, however they were disappointed that the events were canceled. The hurricane delayed many fun activities for students and staff to participate in: the parade on Thursday displays the hard work SGA and many other clubs and sports spent on their floats, and on Friday was the long-anticipated USA theme game.

Students were frantic and awaiting a response from the school to even see if we were going to have a game. In a quick and orderly response to the students and staff of East Coweta, they decided to move the Homecoming game to Saturday. This was unusual for a football game, nonetheless students were excited and well rested for the weekend. The game was held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 28. Students and parents came to support the Indians on that windy morning. Many showed up in red, white, and blue. Some with hats and some with patriotic boas. The parents were equipped with cow bells and their horns. Everyone was thrilled to watch the Indians at home for the first time in two weeks. The first half was filled with excitement from the stands and good plays from the football team. Everyone was feeling the fall weather at this game. It was incredibly windy, but the East Coweta band put on a great show. Their theme this year was Elton John, and they did an excellent job. Many people in the stands were singing along to the tunes that the band played. Then East Coweta made their way back to the field. They fought hard against the Cambridge Bears, but the final score of the game was 30-21 to the Bears. Even though the Indians had a delayed end to their homecoming week, the football team put up a good fight, and many students were excited about homecoming later in the night.

Natalie, a 10th grader who went to the Homecoming game said, “It was fun! I was sad it got canceled on Friday, but I still had fun being there and hanging out with my friends on Saturday morning!”
