East Coweta’s Homecoming festivities came to a halt on Wednesday, September 25 as Hurricane Helene barreled our direction.

Costing upwards of $30 billion in damages, Helene caused mass destruction in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and North Carolina. Though experts predicted a direct hit of the southwest Atlanta metro area, the storm veered east as it made its way up the coast.
EC students told Smoke Signals that they were grateful for a few days off and that the storm wasn’t as bad as predicted for our area. Most hunkered down and spent time at home.
Though the county had to cancel EC’s Homecoming parade, scheduled for Thursday afternoon, the football game just moved to Saturday morning and the dance went on as planned. The Homecoming King was announced at the dance, and we’ll find out who our Homecoming Queen is at October 4th’s Pink Out game.
