On Thursday October 10th the History Club had their annual movie night in Room 318. They watched the movie Devotion. Devotion is about the first black aviator in the U.S. Navy’s history, and his fellow fighter pilot Tom Hudner. This movie relates to history because the movie focuses on the experiences during the Korean War.  Glen Powell is one of the main characters as well as John Majors.

According to Club Sponsor Mrs.Sandlin, the History Club meets once a month from 3:30-4:15 for snacks, games, and guest speakers. She also said there are many field trips they take such as the Infantry Museum, the Renaissance Festival, and the Oak Hill Spooky Cemetery tour. Students in the club can work toward becoming a member of the National History Society and earning Honors cords by fulfilling the following requirements: being a member for 2 or more years, attending most meetings and events, completing 10 or more hours of community service, earning 90% average in all Social Studies courses, and completing at least 1 upper-level Social Studies elective/Dual enrollment/AP course.

The history club is very active in the community: they help set up the Veteran’s Day Assembly every November, the National History Day Competition, and the Black History Month program. All students are welcome to join the club at any time during the year and attend the events. Club officer Olivia Bagwell says, “It’s super fun, join. We have snacks!” Olivia says her responsibilities as one of the club officers is planning field trips, preparing the monthly game they play at the meeting, and talking about history activities you can participate in.
