This week Dr. Pompeo’s 4th Block Physics class made roller coasters out of pool noodles and marbles to study Kinetic and Potential energy in an object. Based on the laughs and creativity of the whole class, the project seemed like a fun good-time for everyone.

‘We’re doing this project to understand how energy works.”

Dr. Pompeo’s 4th Block

This week multiple ECHS science teachers are teaching their students about Kinetic and Potential energy. Potential energy is the energy stored in an object due to its positions and properties, while Kinetic energy is the energy an object has because of its motion. On Wednesday, October 16, one class took it a step further. Creativity flowed as Dr. Pompeo’s science class made roller coasters out of pool noodles on Raymond Hall to analyze the coaster using energy principles. The students were tasked with only using pool noodles, marbles, and tape. One student says the assignment was “hard for our group, but it was fun working with my friends.” Another student said it was ‘“easy but fun.” From an outside perspective, the project seemed fun for many students and definitely seemed to help students to understand kinetic and potential energy.
